Ryan Keene's installation, On the Path of Metamorphosis (The Self Discovery of the Beltzmann Child), draws on a number of ideas and themes, from Kafka to quantum mechanics. Keene's installation explores the harsh realities of life in an industrial society. The piece incorporates found blueprints and technical drawings and a unique sound device composed of two copper switches. Operating like a turntable, the copper switches come into contact, filling the container with sound. On the Path of Metamorphosis will simultaneously engage Pittsburgh's rich industrial past and the dilemma of the individual in today's society.
