Seeking Emerging Artists

Picture this:
You’re walking through the Artists Market at the Three Rivers Arts Festival with a friend. You’ve been making jewelry for years, and there are even a few shops in town that feature your pieces. As you’re strolling through the Market, your friend says, “Why don’t you have a booth here? Your stuff is just as good as this!”
If your answer is, “I’d love to give it a try, but I don’t know where to start,” consider applying for an Emerging Artists Scholarship.
The Emerging Artists Program at the Three Rivers Arts Festival started in 2002 as the first of its kind in the country. Since then, similar programs have spread like wildfire at shows across the country. We’re not ones to brag, but… we’re proud we were the first!
The scholarship provides you with a free booth space and tent for five days at the Festival. We’ll also match you with an experienced market mentor who can offer helpful advice on
displaying your work effectively and communicating with customers, how
to accept payments for purchases made in your booth, and any other questions you might have.
We want to make it easy for artists to do our show. The Emerging
Artists Scholarship helps you find out what works without making a
costly investment. It can also mark the start of an exciting new career. Many scholarship winners go on to become Festival
regulars like Toby Fraley, Mark Traughber and Sandra Moore, and many now make their living by participating in shows like ours. Emerging Artists Olga Mihalyova, Aimee Manion, Kyle Ethan Fischer and Paul and Valerie from Tugboat Printshop all were chosen for awards at the 2008 Festival, placing them among the top 10% of all artists who participated in the show.
Interested? Qualifying artists:
- Live within 100 miles of Pittsburgh
- Have never done an outdoor, Festival-style show before
- Produce work that meets the Conditions of the Festival
Emerging Artists Scholarship applicants do not apply through Zapplication. Instead, download and complete the 2009 Emerging Artist Application. No more than eight scholarships will be awarded.
