Carl Palka’s artwork caught my interest more since I am a person who loves photography. I like his idea on using sepia pictures and coming up with colored pencil artwork. More and more discoveries on the world of art has been created by these artists, which reminds me that schools should continue in improving the kind of education they are offering by including the arts even in the kindergarten curriculum.

In the early 80′s when I was in my very early 20′s I was a volunteer at the festival. It was amazing then. I had an out of town friend for this year’s festival and we walked around for 45 minutes and left. What used to be astounding and about real art has de-evolved into typical Pittsburgh mediocrity. A giant craft and food festival. I am 47 now, and lived in other cities that strive for excellence. It is a shame what this festival has turned into. I have seen so many amazing performers in my travels, and experienced amazing creativity in installations and presentations. Here? Well, if I am looking for a place to eat excruciatingly overpriced junk food, and find some chachki nick-knacks for the house, I know where to go.

Kris really is an inspiration.

He never made it big in my country though (Iceland) so I had to order most of his CDs from the states.

He’s well known as an actor here though.

My large family and I were planning on attending the Art Festival the final weekend UNTIL we learned (via KDKA radio) that the organizers of the 3 Rivers Art Festival worked closely with the LGBT community to include a pride parade and street party in the downtown Pittsburgh area DURING the art festival. What poor taste! I hadn’t missed a 3 rivers Art Festival since 1970 until this year. Allowing gay pride activities during the art festival makes the art festival an “adult” event. We will return to the 3 rivers Art Festival when it becomes family friendly again.
