Three Rivers Arts Festival Seeks Applicants to Perform on the Community Stage
The Three Rivers Arts Festival seeks applicants for two distinct presentation opportunities during the 2008 Festival in downtown Pittsburgh, which will be held June 6-22, 2008. Applications for both performing opportunities can be found on the Festival's website at www.artsfestival.net.
For the first time ever, the Festival will present area children's performing groups as part of its Family Festival, located in Four Gateway Center Plaza. While the Family Festival has always encouraged participation in visual arts and collaborative art-making, 2008 marks the first year that area children can perform as part of the official Festival program.
"We at the Three Rivers Arts Festival hope to encourage a sense of accomplishment for participating children," said TRAF Executive Director Elizabeth Reiss. "By presenting children's groups on a professional stage, regardless of age or ability level, we hope to facilitate community support for children's artistic endeavors."
This opportunity is open to all ages, skill levels and types of performing arts groups. Four performance slots will be awarded each weekend of the Festival on a first-come, first-served basis. Three rules apply: 1. Performances should be 30-45 minutes long; 2. All performers must be high-school age or younger; and 3. Performers must reside within 50 miles of Pittsburgh. Interested performers can download applications at www.artsfestival.net. Applications for the Community Stage must be postmarked by Wednesday, April 30.
