West-African-Inspired Rhythm Band Returns to Pittsburgh

|
International rhythm band Entrain showcases its eclectic style at the 49th annual Three Rivers Arts Festival, 7:30 pm, Wednesday, June 11, 2008, on the Festival Main Stage. All Three Rivers Arts Festival Main Stage performances are free and open to the public.

Between the shared sounds of rock, blues, calypso, jazz and funk, the members of Boston Music Award-winning band have a history of unique, global style rooted in smooth beats and soulful interplay. Entrain formed in 1993. "The whole Entrain concept is based around the drums and infectious rhythms. Once we've got that ... anything goes, everything goes," explains band creator Tom Major. Entrain's performers have played alongside such stage legends as Bo Diddley, Carly Simon and Chuck Barry.

"Entrain played for our festival benefit two years ago," says Festival Executive Director, Elizabeth Reiss, "but it's been four years since they played for the full Festival audience. Entrain is one of those bands that defies classification, and we're excited for Pittsburgh to experience them again."
