Three Rivers Arts Festival Opens with an Explosion of Sound

|
Pre-eminent progressive rock band moe. kicks off the 49th annual Three Rivers Arts Festival with their epic, jam-based sounds on Friday, June 6, 2008, with special guest Teddy Thompson on the Festival Main Stage. Thompson opens at 6:30 pm; moe. performs at 7:30 pm. All Three Rivers Arts Festival Main Stage performances are free and open to the public.

Frequently cited as one of the hardest working jam bands today, moe. has earned a solid reputation over the past decade, producing energetic live shows and acclaimed studio albums. Staples of the music festival circuit, with fans that follow them up and down the eastern seaboard, moe. has performed with the likes of the Allman Brothers Band, The Who and Led Zeppelin front man, Robert Plant. The band recorded their ninth studio album, Sticks and Stones (released earlier this year), under fantastic circumstances in a 150-year-old church. They wrote nearly all the music during the recording session.

"In 2006, moe. performed at the Festival to crowds of around 8,000 people," said Festival Executive Director, Elizabeth Reiss. "Their infectious energy and great stage presentation make them an obvious choice for the opening night of the Festival."

Singer-songwriter Teddy Thompson, whose work was featured on the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack, will join moe. at the Festival. Thompson, whose parents are British folk-rock legends Richard and Linda Thompson, released his third solo studio album in 2007.
