Attack Theatre Swings and Dangles Over Shipping Containers
PITTSBURGH - The contemporary dance daredevils of Attack Theatre save the Three Rivers Arts Festival in their newest site-specific work, The Heist. Presented on and among the Festival's Contained mobile exhibition galleries on Forbes Avenue between Market Square and Stanwix Street, The Heist features high-energy dance, over-the-top characterization and witty physical banter. Catch a free performance at 5:30 pm, Fridays - Sundays, June 6 - 8 and 13 - 15, 2008, rain or shine. All performances are free and open to the public.
Attack Theatre performances balance on the edge of contemporary dance, interactive theater and narrative storytelling. In The Heist, Three Rivers Arts Festival audiences are stunned by the theft of a masterpiece from the Contained exhibitions. Fortunately, Attack Theatre has the solution - which includes an audience-interactive re-creation of the destroyed work of art.
"We've performed in an abandoned rubber band factory, on city streets and in 'regular' theatres - but this is the most demanding site-specific work we've ever undertaken," said Attack Theatre Producing Artistic Director Peter Kope.
Managing Artistic Director Michele de la Reza added, "Performing for the Festival audience brings us in contact a new group of art lovers, appreciators and visitors. We always try to perform in unique and exciting venues, so this was the perfect opportunity for us."
"Attack Theatre has toured world-wide, and they're highly respected as dance risk-takers," said Elizabeth Reiss, Three Rivers Arts Festival executive director. "We wanted to add a performance element to our new shipping container galleries, and we knew Attack Theatre would rise to the challenge of dancing on and around 8-foo-high containers."
